Michael Jackson: Classical Album in the Pipeline?

If I had to name one pop artist that single-handedly influenced my musical ear, it would have to be Michael Jackson. With his untimely death, it seems everyone is crawling out of the woodwork to share their stories about Jackson and how his works affected their lives. (Click on the Michael Jackson link above to post your memories to his website!) Interestingly enough, according to ContactMusic.com, Jackson had a classical album in the pipeline.

The King of Pop was also taking on Classical music? Can this really be true? According to composer David Michael Frank it is. In May 2009, Frank visited with Jackson in his LA home, at Jackson's request. Frank says that he was stunned by Jackson's knowledge of classical music. He goes on to say that Jackson "had two demos of two pieces he'd written, but they weren't complete. For one of them, he had a whole section of it done in his head. He had no recorded it. He hummed it to me as I sat at the keyboard in his pool house and we figured out the chords - I guess this recording I made is the only copy that exists of his music" (from ContactMusic.com interview).

Hopefully at some point Jackson's family will decide to release his collection of classical compositions. And I can tell you, if that album is ever released, I will be first in line to buy it.
